Goodbye Dearest: Clack Clack Empire
Monday, February 16th, 2009
Anyone still think we’re not in the midst of a deep, dark and terrible recession? …Well, another one of our favourite local boutiques is calling it quits.

Here’s the official facebook word from Erin:
Well m’lovelies,
I’m a little teary-eyed writing this but it’s got to get done so here it goes…
It’s with some regret I have decided to close Clack Clack Empire permanently on March 28th. This date also happens to be CCE’s one year birthday, so I think it’s kind of fitting in a strange sort of way!
I suppose there’s various reasons I’ve decided to close, namely the cruel recession we find ourselves in, and perhaps the fact that I can’t seem to find another job in my dead and dying geology industry to help with the expensive growing pains of a baby business.
But lil’ Clack Clack’s closing is certainly not because I haven’t received any support from you folks!
All of you, friends, family and new supporters gained along the way have been so very gracious. You’ve helped me build the business, finance it, decorate it, wrote about it, told me what to buy and what to stay the hell away from, got art work on my walls, spent your money at my shop, came out for events, brought cupcakes to parties, helped me clean after parties, spread the word about the shop, offered some great advice or just came by with a coffee and chatted. All of it I appreciate so very much. Though it’s sad to have to close a good business when it’s still so young, it’s thanks to your support I was even able to achieve this goal of mine at all and for that I’m forever grateful.
I’ve learned a lot about business but a fair bit more about myself, and to me, that’s a success.
Thanks you.
Love,
Erin
PS-keep your peepers open for the CCE (and paperbird) R.I.P. sale!! Holla! And the lovely and talented Deidre McAdams has a fantastic abstract work up still, AND there’s ONE more art opening…so it ain’t over quite yet!!
You heard her! So be sure to get down and pickup all the things you wish you had in the last year! It’s not only gonna be your last chance, but (they’re gonna be cheap too)!!
The Sweat Shop – CLOSED
Thursday, February 12th, 2009
The Sweatshop will be missed.

“HEY VANCOUVER,
It is with much anger and a heavy heart that I write this… It appears that “NO FUN CITY” has again become true. The Sweatshop has been shut down! The city and the landlord have terminated our licenses and our lease. We have to exit the premises as of Monday Feb. 16th. I have gone head to head with a couple officers for the past year and have been trying to work with city hall to meet their demands on us as a venue, skate park and gallery space. But in the end the $$$, fines and the cities demands are just too much to fight. They have closed us down!
I will be in contact with all the promoters, bands and events that are booked in the future at the sweatshop. I will do everything I can to find and relocate all of the upcoming shows.
This space has been amazing! And lets be honest this city sucks, venue after venue being closed, space after space being shut down and so many independent promoters, artists and performers being crushed by the corporate machine! This is a very sad day for me. And as much as the fight gets harder and more and more frustrating everyday. I don’t really know what else to do but fight and continue on. So stayed tuned… support the underground and I promise you! Another space will soon arise!!!! But for now we are done.
This past year we have had some of the most amazing performances, art shows and parties. And being true to form we are going to go out with one more… So for all of you who have been to the sweatshop and for those who always wanted to…. please come and join us this sat night. Feb. 14th Valentines Day with PRIDE TIGER, THE JOLTS, ADELAIDE and a few surprise deejays keeping the party going. Because in the end its always a party at the sweatshop!!!!
MALICE”
